Scripture Memorization and Meditation for the Strong of Heart and for the Faint of Heart
“I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.” Psalm 119:16
What Bible verses have you memorized in the past and can recall now? I’m sure some from Sunday School or Confirmation class. Have you learned any new verses recently? You might have gotten a bit rusty at it, like many of the rest of us. I know the excuses. Let me see if I can find yours: “I don’t have time.” “I can’t memorize.” “It is too difficult.” “I am too lazy.” “I don’t know where to begin.” “I am too old.” “I am too young.” “I might become too proud.”
I have a challenge for you for 2022, beginning January 3rd. If you are up to this we can help and encourage each other. That challenge is to memorize the book of Ephesians—one verse at a time. Write each verse on a card or piece of paper with the reference at the beginning and end of the verse. I would encourage a more literal translation, such as NASB, ESV, or NKJV. The pattern will be memorize and meditate on the first verse on Monday and Tuesday, the second on Wednesday and Thursday, and the third on Friday and Saturday. Sunday you can take the day off or use time to quiz each other. Read the verse aloud 10 times, say it without looking five times (peek if necessary), and meditate on the verse one time daily. Make the effort. The Holy Spirit will help you!
